Shoreline

2017-2024|Photography, collage, illustration

Shoreline is a documentary work produced in 2017-2024 that examines the relationship between people and the ocean. In this project, I explore both from the spiritual and political aspects: what does the “water” represent for us? Or more precisely, what does the Taiwan Strait, the body of water separating Taiwan and China mean to us, the Taiwanese? Taiwan’s western coast lies directly across from China, and thus carries a historical and political burden that is difficult to forget. This burden is a reflection of the chaos and ambiguity that surrounds Taiwanese national identity. In our collective imaginary, this shoreline evokes feelings of separation, protection, but also of isolation and of abandon. In my work, hybridization serves as a form of metaphor, with it I try to describe the general complex which is hidden in the beings of all the islanders.

Rivage

2017-2024|Photographie, collage, illustration
