Outdoor Room

Following the economic boom, Taiwanese society has undergone a profound transformation in recent decades. Closing in on itself, the island forms a cultural entity distinct from that of the Chinese mainland. The societal environment is homogeneous: There are few tourists and few foreigners whose presence would impose on the islanders a look from the outside, likely to cause discomfort. So the Taiwanese monopolizes the outdoor space by making it a living space; they feel as at ease there as, so to speak, as in their own rooms. I focus on this appropriation of the plain-air-bedroom space. In this project, I capture images of my hometown where the landscapes are messy, and traces of the life of the inhabitants have been carelessly left on the street, creating an unsuspected beauty.

Suite à l’envol économique, la société taïwanaise a connue une transformation profonde depuis les dernières décennies. Se renfermant sur elle-même, l’île forme une entité culturelle distincte de celle du continent Chinois. L’environnement sociétal est homogène : Il y a peu de touristes, peu d’étrangers, dont la présence imposerait aux insulaires un regard de l’extérieur susceptible de causer un malaise. Alors, les Taïwanais s’accaparent l’espace extérieur en en faisant un espace de vie ; ils s’y sentent à leur aise comme, pour ainsi dire, dans leur propre chambre. Je me penche sur cette appropriation de l’espace de type chambre en plein-air si on peut dire. Dans ce projet, je capture des images de ma ville natale où les paysages sont désordonnés, des traces de vie des habitants ont été négligemment laissées dans la rue, créant ainsi une beauté insoupçonnée. Vivre semble signifier pour les habitants une organisation collectif dans lequel ils s’oublient avec une négligence presque festive.

隨著經濟起飛，台灣社會中在過去幾十年間，經歷深刻變異。島嶼向內封閉，漸成為一個與中國截然不同的文化體。台灣社會的組成具有高同質性：鮮少觀光客與外國人，無外界目光壓力的生活，使得台灣人在街頭，猶如在自己房間般自在。因此〈露天房間〉探索的人台灣人佔領戶外公共空間，將它私有化為個人生活空間的台灣人性。在這組攝影作品中，我拍攝我成長的故鄉，在那裏人們生活的痕跡被無意識地遺留在馬路上，創造出一種無意識的美感。居民的生活體現著一種輕盈，猶如生活本身就是一場無意識的遊戲。
