Island of Abandoned Military Camp

In the early winter of 2022, a group of photography creators and I went to Penghu to have a five day workshop of creation. We practiced yoga in the morning, and went to the dilapidated fortress in the westernmost part of Penghu to meditate. We asked each other some essential questions about art making and answered them practically with our artistic actions. When it was my turn to answer, they asked me, “How did you make it to get close to the subject in such a short time in your documentary projects?" To answer, I invited everyone to dance in the abandoned military camp, trying to dance under the bursting sea breeze, in order to let the wind blow away the shell of the body, and maybe as well the limits that the shell of the body could create for our seeing. The ruins exhibition Look at the Graves on My Grass Grow So High records how this several-day improvisation and artistic dialogue left marks on each individual.

L'île du Camp Militaire Abandonné

Au début de l'hiver 2022, un groupe de photographes, ainsi que moi sommes allés à Penghu pour avoir un atelier de création sur 5 jours. Nous avons pratiqué le yoga le matin et sommes allés méditer dans la forteresse délabrée à l'extrême ouest de Penghu. Nous avons échangé sur des questions essentielles de la création artistique et nous y avons répondu par des actions artistiques. Quand ce fut à mon tour de répondre, ils m'ont demandé « Comment as-tu fait pour te lier aussi rapidement avec les autres, sur des sujets documentaires en si peu de temps ? »
Pour répondre, j'ai invité tout le monde à danser dans le camp militaire abandonné, sous la brise marine éclatante, afin de laisser le vent emporter la carapace du corps. Peut-être, aussi les limites que la carapace du corps pourrait créer pour notre regard vers le monde. L'exposition « L'Île du Camp militaire abandonné » qui prend place dans le ruine du théâtre montre comment cette improvisation de plusieurs jours, et ce questionnement artistique ont laissé des traces sur chaque créateur.

2022年初冬，我和一群攝影創作者去澎湖進行現地創作，清晨練瑜珈，去澎湖最西邊的殘破堡壘修煉，向彼此提出關於創作的大問題，並用藝術行動來實際回答。輪到我回答時，他們問我「為什麼你總在這麼短的時間，如此貼近被攝者？」為回答，我邀大家到廢棄軍營跳舞，試著在爆裂的海風下把身體的殼跳到脫落，沒殼的身體或許能讓我們貼近所觀看的一切。廢墟展覽「看我草上的墓都長得這麽高了」紀錄這場為期數日的即興創作和藝術問答，如何分別在每個人的身上留下痕跡。
